At Smuggler's Cove, the house style is to use a blended aged rum in this recipe. However, for a closer historical approximation of colonial-era drinks, you may with to choose a pot still unaged rum or pot still lightly aged rum. Those produced today in New England especially mimic the rums of the day, albeit with much improved quality!
